This latest invention offers self service key cutting and key duplication. It’s much like an ATM machine. You place the key you want to copy inside, select the amount of copies you’re interested in, insert your credit card and watch the robot inside cut the keys for you. Meanwhile you can even shop for unique key rings. At the end of it all, your keys are dispensed at the bottom just like in any vending machine.
The fact is that this idea is pretty cool, but with that said, I would be a bit concerned about having a machine like this widespread. The fact that you insert your keys, allows the machine to store the data required to make copies of your keys, in addition you’re also paying via credit card since there is no cash option, so that’s a little more extra information you’re giving away. To top all that, a receipt is not printed but emailed to you instead. So the following information is stored on this machine: key data/ codes, credit card information and/or billing information, and email address. This could be deadly in the wrong hands.
